Green Label Certification

Sutok specializes in guiding companies and businesses through the process of obtaining the official “Green Label” permit from the Standards Institution of Israel. This is achieved by preparing comprehensive product documentation and conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) for environmentally friendly products and services.

What is a Green Label?

In 2005, Israeli Standard 5281 for Green Building was introduced for the first time. Over the years, the standard has been updated several times, reflecting changes in government policy. Initially, the standard was voluntary and available only to companies choosing to implement green processes. However, in March 2022, a decision was made to make the standard mandatory, and, since March 2023, it has become binding for all construction developers in Israel.

The purpose of Standard 5281 is to minimize impacts on ecological and environmental systems, including air, water, and soil, improve energy ratings, promote sustainable waste management solutions, and enhance the quality of life in urban areas. This is accomplished using “green” processes and materials, which earn developers points within the certification framework. To be recognized as a “Green Building,” a project must earn a minimum of 55 points. The more points a project accumulates, the more “stars” it is awarded, on a scale from one to five, as follows:

The Value of the Green Label

For companies providing products or services with a Green Label certificate, the advantages are clear: Developers aiming to maximize their points and attain higher star ratings will prefer to work with “green” suppliers from the outset.

In addition to facilitating green building points, the Green Label offers several additional benefits:

  • It serves as official confirmation that a product or service is environmentally friendly.

  • It demonstrates that sustainability does not compromise the product’s quality or safety.

  • Designing “green” products and services encourages consideration of circular economy practices, resource efficiency, and environmental minimization throughout the entire life cycle.

  • The Green Label makes it easier for customers and consumers to identify and compare green products and services with those that are uncertified.

How Does the Certification Process Work?

The process, as with any professional project, begins with a consultation with Sutok’s expert advisors. Our consultants analyze your product or service, materials, manufacturing processes, and supplier characteristics. All relevant information is gathered into a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and a detailed product dossier.

Once the documentation is ready, the client submits an application form to the Standards Institution of Israel. The institution then provides a price quote, and upon approval, the certification process begins.

A representative from the Standards Institution of Israel reviews the product or service dossier and conducts an audit at the production site. If necessary, the product file is updated according to the representative’s guidance. Once finalized and approved, the official Green Label certificate is issued. This certification must be maintained through annual audits and review processes.
