Circular Economy- From Waste to wealth Course

The course is designed and adapted to academic frameworks and environmental professionals, and is delivered in English or Hebrew, frontal or online, as needed.

Course objectives:

The course provides a multidisciplinary overview of a wide range of environmental issues and problems that can be solved through the circular economy. Through the course, the students are given tools that can assist in planning and developing a project based on the circular economy, sustainability and innovation. Students will experience the following areas:

1. Identifying economic-environmental failure points in products, markets and industry.

2. Developing solutions according to the principles of the circular economy.

3. Designing business models based on circular economy.

 

The curriculum will focus on practicing how to identify market needs, verify them, and then develop appropriate initial environmental and economic solutions. Besides lectures, a significant part of the course is taught in a seminar format, including personal work and teamwork, and presentation of the projects on a joint panel.

 

The syllabus:

 

The length of the course is 26 academic hours, during which we will review the main topics in the field of sustainability and environment, and examine them with methods compatible with the circular economy principles:

1. Introduction to the circular economy – from product design to waste-free design. Business models, strategies and opportunities in the circular economy.

2. Implementation of the principles of the circular economy in the management of solid waste.

3. Is it possible to reduce industrial wastewater, and how can you turn them into profit?

4. Optimal utilization of water – how to turn water into a sustainable resource?

5. Reducing the source of air pollution in the industry, and how to maintain air quality as part of your lifestyle.

6. Reducing the effects of the food and agriculture industry, while maintaining food security in the present and in the future.

         

In the course, students will be exposed to innovative technologies in the field of sustainability in the entrepreneurial arena in Israel and abroad. During the course we will host Israeli entrepreneurs and representatives of breakthrough companies in various fields of study.

 

The course discusses the principles of the circular economy from the perspective of an environmental consultant. We will study and examine how widespread the field of waste management is, and we will give examples of a systemic view of current production, sales and consumption processes, by finding the ability to minimize the negative environmental impacts of the process as much as possible.
