Typically, fast food restaurants create immense amounts of plastic waste, since their products are sold in disposable plastic containers.
Burger King is an American fast-food chain that sells its products internationally. In 2020, Burger King launched its new concept of sustainable packaging, as the first step toward a circular economy model. Earlier this year, began the implementation of reusable burger containers and drink cups across the United Kingdom (see image below).
The company is distributing food in these reusable containers with a £1 deposit, which can be returned to the customer upon the return of said containers. The containers are then professionally washed in order to be reused for the next customers.
With the help of this model, Burger King is able to circularly reuse its containers and eliminate the waste that was once created by its distribution of products in single-use containers.
Wow I believe this is a very viable solution for fast food restaurants. I believe that it would also help if the containers were environent friendly at the same time. this solves the problem if customers do not return the containers
How do we ensure that every plastic container is being reused and not thrown out into the street?
