For the most part, any company that deals in materials with risk components is required to have a poisons permit.
In this project, the client is a subsidiary that operated under the company's comprehensive poisons permit. The customer contacted us after realizing the need for a separation of the poison permits each belonging to a different private company number.
According to the Hazardous Substances Law, 1993, any use of hazardous substances requires a poisons permit.
Since the hazardous substances were already being used by the client and it was not possible to stop the activity, we set out, together with the client, in a race against time to issue the permit as quickly as possible.
As part of the work on the poisons permit, we reviewed all the safety sheets of the materials purchased by the company and the procurement summaries in recent years, and together with the client we evaluated quantities for the purpose of the application for the poisons permit.
In the review of the safety sheets, we found many substances that are not classified as dangerous, but they contain dangerous ingredients above the threshold amount for these ingredients, and are therefore considered poisons according to the law, even though no risk group or UN number was specified.
After compiling the final list of materials, a tour was conducted by the district toxics commissioner, and as a result, the company received a list of requirements for adapting the plant to store the materials, such as defining separated storage areas, toxic discharge area, hoardings, signage, surveillance (poison registers), preparation of a factory file, and more.
The process of approving the application for a poison permit and adjusting the factory took several months, during which the factory was required to build new work procedures and change old habits. During this period we accompanied the client continuously and were at his disposal for any question, big or small, we represented him before the authorities and closed all of the loose ends.
At the end of the process, the long-awaited permit was received, and we held a meeting with the client to present and explain the terms of the permit, in order to fully incorporate the requirements in all their details.
